Process

When designing Platter, I focused on creating an intuitive, minimalist meal-ordering app that prioritized ease of use and seamless navigation. The challenge was to simplify the ordering process while ensuring all essential features, like meal customization and browsing, were easily accessible. By using a clean design system and focusing on user flow, I aimed to make the app visually appealing and functional across all devices.

  1. User Experience: Focused on simplifying navigation for a smooth and intuitive experience

  2. Typeface & Design System: Chose a clean, modern design system using Inter and SF Pro fonts

  3. Prioritizing Features: Prioritized key features like meal customization and easy browsing

  4. Clear Intentions: Designed with a focus on clear, actionable calls-to-action

  5. Streamline Design: Streamlined the user flow to minimize steps in the ordering process

Color Palette and Typography

Color Palette, Typography & Intergration

For the Platter app, I selected a color palette that strikes a balance between clean, modern aesthetics and a welcoming, easy-to-read interface. The colors were chosen to promote clarity and simplicity, enhancing the user experience without overwhelming the user. The use of neutral tones with subtle pops of color helps guide attention to important features, like call-to-action buttons and meal options.

For the typefaces, I chose Inter as the primary font for its versatility and legibility across mobile screens. Its clean, modern design made it a perfect fit for the app's minimalistic style. SF Pro was used as the secondary typeface, providing a complementary contrast that improved the overall visual hierarchy while maintaining clarity and a cohesive feel throughout the design.

Key takeaways

Designing Platter taught me the importance of balancing aesthetics with functionality to enhance user experience. I learned how simplifying complex tasks can improve satisfaction, and how a cohesive color palette and type system guide user behavior. This project reinforced the value of focusing on core features for a streamlined, efficient app.

  • Simplicity is key: Focusing on a clean, minimalist design allowed the app to remain intuitive and easy to navigate, improving the user experience.

  • Consistency matters: Maintaining a cohesive design system with a limited color palette and thoughtful typography helped create a unified and professional feel.

  • User-centered design: Prioritizing user flow and essential features over unnecessary complexity resulted in an efficient and streamlined meal-ordering process.

  • Design clarity: The thoughtful use of colors and typefaces ensured clear communication of key actions and a seamless, visually appealing interface.
